Tokyo fashion
Step-by-step plan

Tokyo fashion

A big part of Japanese pop culture is fashion. In the streets of Tokyo, everything is possible! From elaborate dresses and accessories to colourful outfits, we love the creativity people show. What we find especially inspiring, however, are the shoes. Intricate designs, interesting colours and sky-high platforms, anything to express yourself can be found in Tokyo’s shoes.

In this step-by-step plan, we show you how to draw your own colourful Tokyo-proof shoes! Let’s get into it!

Step 1

Find a reference image of a shoe style that speaks to you. We went for these impressive platform boots! Make a sketch of the shoes using the mechanical pencil and pick out the colours of the Gelly Rolls you want to use.

Step 1

Step 2

Time to add some colour! Use small dots – the same technique impressionist painters used to mix colours – with the different coloured Gelly Roll pens. The different types of Gelly Roll add different effects to your drawing: Moonlight offers neon colours; Stardust adds some glitter and Metallic adds a nice sheen to your work. Have fun picking different colours to make your shoes pop!

Step 2

Step 3

Once you’re happy with the colours, add some shadow and details (like the soles) using the mechanical pencil to provide some depth.

Step 3

Step 4

That completes your rainbow boots. We hope this step-by-step plan inspires you to draw your own version! If you do, don’t forget to share your result using #RoyalTalens!
