Robert Lapoujade: From bakery to atelier
Robert Lapoujade (Montauban, 1921 – Bellot, 1993) followed an unconventional path into the world of art. Coming from a family of bakers, he left school at a young age after the death of his father. He spent several years working in the family business and as a kitchen assistant in restaurants.
During this time, he began experimenting with painting. In 1942, he moved to Paris, where his artistic career started to take shape. Toward the end of the Second World War, he met Jean Bardet and Paul Flamand, who supported him in organizing his first exhibition in Paris.
Later in life, Lapoujade became a teacher at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, where he contributed to the development of a new generation of artists.
