Robert Lapoujade painting installed at Royal Talens factory - Royal Talens
This week, a painting from the Royal Talens Foundation archive has been carefully installed in the Royal Talens factory. The work, created by French artist Robert Lapoujade in 1989, brings a piece of Talens’ artistic history into the environment where materials are still produced every day.
In the accompanying video, the installation process is shown in detail. The painting is handled with great care, emphasizing both its physical fragility and its cultural value. This moment captures more than a practical action, it reflects a connection between past and present within the factory setting.

Robert Lapoujade: From bakery to atelier

Robert Lapoujade (Montauban, 1921 – Bellot, 1993) followed an unconventional path into the world of art. Coming from a family of bakers, he left school at a young age after the death of his father. He spent several years working in the family business and as a kitchen assistant in restaurants.

During this time, he began experimenting with painting. In 1942, he moved to Paris, where his artistic career started to take shape. Toward the end of the Second World War, he met Jean Bardet and Paul Flamand, who supported him in organizing his first exhibition in Paris.

Later in life, Lapoujade became a teacher at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, where he contributed to the development of a new generation of artists.

“Les géants de la couleur”

The painting now displayed in the Royal Talens factory, Les géants de la couleur, was created in 1989. It was made as a gift for the opening of a new filling facility and reflects Lapoujade’s connection to Talens France.

Within the composition, attentive viewers can recognize portraits of major figures in art history, including Rembrandt and Vincent van Gogh. The painting is both a tribute to artistic tradition and a reflection on the enduring influence of color in art.

Connecting heritage and production

By placing this artwork within the factory, the Foundation creates a visible link between Talens’ heritage and its contemporary production processes. The painting serves as a reminder that the materials produced here continue to support artists around the world, just as they did in the past.

The careful installation captured in the video underlines the respect for this shared history and highlights the ongoing relationship between art and production at Royal Talens.
