Aisha & Friends brings creative support to children in Kilifi County Referral Hospital - Royal Talens
In June 2026, Aisha & Friends continued its collaboration with the children’s ward of Kilifi County Referral Hospital in Kenya. Through this partnership, children receiving care at the hospital and the staff supporting them were given access to creative materials provided by the Royal Talens Foundation. More than 30 participants took part in the project.

Creating a more child-friendly hospital environment

The collaboration focuses on strengthening social and emotional support for children during their hospital stay. Together with the hospital team, Aisha & Friends works to make the children’s ward and other hospital spaces more child-friendly. Staff members receive training on topics such as play-based interaction, reducing stress for children in hospital, preparing children for treatments and operations, and supporting conversations about emotions.

Art materials as a valuable resource

Creative activities play an important role in this approach. The Royal Talens Foundation materials were provided to play therapists and social workers working on the ward. According to Aisha & Friends, the hospital has limited resources for creative activities, making access to art materials especially valuable for both children and staff.

Encouraging self-expression and play

When the materials were introduced in the playroom, children immediately showed enthusiasm and were eager to start creating. Staff members expressed their appreciation for receiving creative resources that can be used in their daily work with young patients. The activities offered children an opportunity to express themselves, engage in play, and experience moments of normality during their time in hospital.

About Aisha & Friends

Proud moments and positive impact

Reflecting on the project, the organisation highlighted the positive atmosphere created by the activities: staff were grateful for the creative materials, while children proudly shared what they had made. These moments demonstrate how creativity can contribute to emotional wellbeing and support meaningful connections between children and caregivers.
