Update mural in youth center Hambaken Netherlands

Update mural in youth center Hambaken Netherlands

Hambaken Connect supports underprivileged children and young adults by helping them with after school activities. Their focus is to connect, strengthen and support youth in every way possible. The community center is a safe place for them to come together, get help with their homework or participate in sports activities.

Hambaken Connect - transforming white walls into a creative and stimulating environment

One of the board members of Hambaken Connect, reached out to us for their next project. They wanted to work together with the children in order to transform the community area- that was clinically white - into a colourful area that would stimulate their creative minds.  We helped by connecting them with the right artists and providing them with the necessary materials.

Kings of Colors

We contacted artists who could help out. This is how we got connected to Kings of Colors, a beautiful foundation whose goal is to provide a platform for local, national and international artists to showcase their street art and street culture skills to a larger audience. Jan-Henk van Ieperen, founder of this initiative, decided to voluntarily help the young people of Hambaken Connect. Jan-Henk is personally guiding the workshops. The youth learns about street art and discovers how nice and healthy it is to be creative.

Getting inspiration and making a mural

First, the volunteers of Kings of Colors taught the Hambaken youth about the art of graffiti. The project took full swing as the workshops continued. It was so inspiring to see all who were involved, getting so motivated to turn their community center into something beautiful, where they can meet and get together.

Creating together is fun!

Discovering creativity is central to this project. That is why Jan Henk was the first to organize a graffiti workshop. Then the children thought and sketched out ideas what the wall could look like.

Jan Henk made 1 design of all ideas and drawings. This is projected on the wall and now the children have been painting together for days. Look at these beautiful pictures! You can feel the positivity, the teamwork and the love that is put into this work of art!!!
