Bringing creativity to the streets of Apeldoorn
Bringing creativity to the streets of Apeldoorn

A new mural celebrates creativity, craftsmanship and community

Standing more than eight metres tall, the artwork immediately draws attention. Created by artists Zesta and Page33 of Studio ZEPA, the mural combines bold colours, graphic forms and storytelling to create an image that is both accessible and meaningful. At its centre, a hand passes flowers and paintbrushes to a child, symbolizing the transfer of creativity, craftsmanship and the joy of making from one generation to the next. These values lie at the heart of the Royal Talens Foundation’s mission.

Inspired by Apeldoorn's identity

The mural tells a story that is deeply rooted in Apeldoorn. Decorative patterns inspired by the gardens of Paleis Het Loo are woven throughout the design, creating a connection to the city’s royal heritage. The artwork also refers to the history of Royal Talens. Queen Wilhelmina was a passionate painter who used Talens products, and in 1949 the company received the Royal designation. By bringing together these references, the mural connects art, history and local pride in a single image.

Making art accessible to everyone

The Royal Talens Foundation believes that creativity should be accessible to all. Public art plays an important role in achieving that goal. Unlike museums or galleries, murals are encountered in everyday life, whether people are walking through the city, cycling to work or meeting friends. They invite curiosity, spark conversations and contribute to a more inspiring public environment.

This project also actively involved the local community. Residents and future homeowners were invited to choose from three design concepts, with the work of Studio ZEPA emerging as the favourite.

The power of collaboration

Royal Green & Purple demonstrates what can be achieved when organisations come together around a shared vision. By combining expertise, resources and networks, the project partners have created a lasting artwork that contributes to the cultural life of Apeldoorn and celebrates the importance of creativity in society.

As a foundation, we are proud to support initiatives that inspire people, strengthen communities and encourage creative expression. We hope this mural will continue to spark imagination and bring colour to the city for many years to come.

In the heart of Apeldoorn, a striking new mural now brightens Nieuwstraat. Titled Royal Green & Purple, the artwork by Studio ZEPA was created through a collaboration between the Royal Talens Foundation, Rabobank Apeldoorn e.o., ACEC and the Municipality of Apeldoorn. The mural is a vibrant example of how art can enrich public spaces and make creativity visible to everyone.
