Highlights from Royal Talens’ corporate collection in CODA Museum

“De verftoets” (translation: the brush stroke) – highlights from Royal Talens’ corporate collection will be exhibited starting December 2, 2021, to March 6, 2022 in CODA Museum in Apeldoorn. During this period, the museum will be showcasing works by Jan Cremer, Jörg Remé, Edwin Hagendoorn, René Jansen, Edwin Aafjes, Dinie Boogaart and Ad Merx, including paint swatches and posters from Royal Talens throughout the years.

In this exhibition in CODA Museum, various painting styles will be illustrated through seven contemporary paintings from Royal Talens’ corporate collection. These showcased artworks vary greatly in style and technique: from a loose, expressive brush stroke on canvas to a realistic, smoothly painted panel.

The production process of paint will be made clear through swatches from the factory and an interactive booklet made by CODA for all ages, amongst other items. The differences between oil, acrylic and watercolours, different paintbrushes and the origins of colour (combinations) will be discussed. Additionally, you can listen to a podcast in which CODA curator Els Drummen interviews (retired) engineer at Royal Talens, Bert Klein-Ovink. Klein-Ovink was involved in the art commission of the company for years and shares how the different works of art that are being showcased became part of the collection.

During the exposition, visitors can discover, amongst other works, an expressive oil painting from Dutch artist Jan Cremer and a monumental canvas from Polish artist Jörg Remé, that normally hangs on the wall of Talens’ production facilities. This artwork - as well as the other displayed pieces – has been restored especially for this exhibition. CODA Museum will also showcase unique historical objects from Talens, from painting products to archived photographs and old brochures.
