Gerdien’s steps follow below.
Unpack your materials and add an HB pencil, eraser and a pencil sharpener.
- Explore your materials. Create a colour chart by blending colours together. Note that, for example, yellow underneath blue remains lighter than blue underneath yellow. Make use of this when working out the final details.
- Take a standard HB graphite pencil and trace the example as closely as possible; outlines are sufficient; details will be added in later steps.
- Then roll the kneaded eraser over the paper to remove any excess graphite.
- Start with one of the neon coloured pencils, e.g. the blue one, and trace the outlines of the areas that will be blue. Fill these areas in with a very light blue.
- Continue in this way with each other colour. By doing it this way, you can keep the balance of the areas and allow the beautiful neon shades to stand out to their best advantage.
- Using your colour chart, you can now work out the details. For a slightly darker yellow, mix in some orange; adding blue to red makes dark red, etc.
- A small black dot with your graphite pencil completes the eye.
