It is an excellent hard and glossy finish varnish for acrylic and/or vinyl paints. It can be used as a primer for porous surfaces such as plaster or wood and also on metallic surfaces. Can be used as a binder for powder pigments. Commonly used as a varnish for polychromes. It is used as a finish for gold or silver leaf and the like. An excellent metallic varnish can be obtained by adding gold or silver powder to shellac. - On plaster or other porous surfaces it acts as a primer, applying one or two coats. On wood: if the wood is new, it has to be very smooth (sanded), clean and dry. Then apply 3 or 4 coats, leaving it to dry completely between coats. Apply by brush, paintbrush or trowel. Alcohol thinner.
