Rostislaw Tsarenko

Rostislaw Tsarenko is an artist from Ukraine who is known for his intricate artworks in black and white dot work style. His works are both realistic and surrealistic and often portray deep subjects.

“One should not look for oneself in the art, but for the art in oneself.”

About Rostislaw Tsarenko

Rostislaw is an artist originally from Poltava, Ukraine. He is a self-taught artist who works in dot work style. “As long as I can remember, I have always drawn and painted pictures using different types of paint, pencils, markers, pens – I’ve tried virtually everything. Later I found myself working with ink, which provoked me to try drawing in dot work style (pointillism, stippling). Perseverance, concentration and tenacity are the foundation of the style I create in, trying to achieve maximum realism in my works.”

Rostislaw’s work conveys realism, subtlety, depth and the ambiguity of meanings and messages. “That is what you can observe in my works, I have never set a goal for myself to convey them to people, let everyone decide for themselves what they want to see. Let’s leave the interpretation and analysis of paintings to art historians.”

Empowering creativity

Rostislaw believes each of us is a creator, born with the ability to create beauty, but not everyone chooses to develop this skill. “As a very young child, holding a pencil in my hand, I was a mirror, reflecting a distorted reality through my curious child’s eyes onto paper. Without realising what I was making, I was creating the illusion of the world that appeared in my drawings – that was the beginning of my journey.”

“One should not look for oneself in the art, but for the art in oneself.”

Like many artists, Rostislaw draws inspiration from music, movies, the aesthetics of details in his environment, as well as classical sculptures of ancient Rome, Greece, Italy and more, which you can often see portrayed in his works. “Out of nothing and there will be nothing. Inspiration is the impulse that makes the spiritual world revolve around the physical world.”

“How many worries and problems surround us? In the routine of everyday life, we have no time to turn around and look around, and that's when miracles happen.”
