"My paintings are figurative, but not about likeness. I paint feelings such as loneliness, turmoil, hope, melancholy and longing."

About Victor Schegin

Victor’s path into painting was unconventional. He discovered graffiti at fifteen, which led him to traditional mediums and figurative subjects. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, which sharpened his eye through photography and editing, he committed fully to painting. Today, his work has been shown across Europe in Paris, Madrid, the Netherlands and Sweden. In 2025, he was a finalist for both the Target Art Prize and the Beautiful Bizarre Magazine Emerging Artist Award.

Becoming an artist

"I am largely self-taught. I shaped my artistic journey outside of traditional academic institutions, though I attended city led workshops in Paris during my studies. Painting became my way to explore and express emotions that cannot always be spoken."

Inspiration

The human condition is at the core of Victor’s work. He explores solitude, intimacy, absence, desire and death. He draws inspiration from his own sentimental and emotional landscapes, cinema, photography, exhibitions, other artists, books, trips and music. He is especially drawn to the new realism trend where classical discipline meets unrestrained visions without rules.

Using the right materials

Victor works with mediums that allow him to explore both realism and expressionism. He values versatility, precision and the tactile qualities of paint to translate feelings into form.
