Ecoline technique: wet-on-wet shimmering heart - Royal Talens
Ecoline technique: wet-on-wet shimmering heart - Royal Talens

What do you need?

  • Your favourite liquid Ecoline colours (at least two for a gradient)
  • Our Gold 801 for the shimmer
  • A palette or a non-absorbent surface for mixing
  • Watercolour paper (for example, Ecoline's, with a smooth texture)
  • A watercolour brush
  • A bit of water to blend the colours smoothly and rinse your brush

Step 1

Choose your colours

Select two or more colours that complement each other beautifully. For example, deep blue combined with lilac, or fuchsia (350) with pastel red (381). With 58 different liquid colours to choose from, the possibilities are endless!

Step 2

Mix the base colours with Gold

Take your favourite colours and add a few drops to your mixing palette. The handy pipette makes it easy to control the amount. Add a few drops of golden Ecoline to your base colour. Start with one drop for a subtle shimmer. Want a more intense sparkle? Gradually add more drops. Mix the base colour and gold thoroughly with a brush to create an even shimmer.

Step 3

Paint a heart shape with water

For the wet-on-wet technique, start by applying water to the paper in the shape of a heart.

Step 4

Add different drops

Apply various drops of your mixed Ecoline into the wet heart shape. The water will keep the Ecoline within the heart’s outline. By placing different colours in different areas, you’ll create a playful effect.

Step 5

Let it dry

Allow the heart to dry completely to prevent it from bleeding outside the lines. Once your artwork is fully dry, the shimmer will become truly visible!
