About Chatchawan Rodklongtan

Chatchawan Rodklongtan was born in Bangkok, Thailand in 1974. Born into a supportive family, he decided to pursue a career in painting. He finished his art education at the Poh Chang Academy and the Rajamangala Institute of Technology where he completed his Master of Arts in painting.

Starting out young

From a very young age, Chatchawan had wanted to become an artist. “I can’t remember exactly when, but I do know that since I was introduced to sketching as a kid, I never stopped drawing. I also remember when I was 7 years old, a teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I just told him that I wanted to make a living by painting. I didn’t quite understand what it was like to be an artist, but what I did know is that I just loved to paint and that I wanted to do it every day. Until now, I haven’t stopped painting!”

Finding inspiration

Chatchawan has always had a passion for art and he has devoted his life to this. Those who have seen his work will experience his dedication. His work contains a lot of light and shadow. The themes change according to what inspires him during each step of life.

Empowering creativity

At first, he was really inspired by Thai tradition and culture, which stems from his early childhood. He used to spend a lot of his time in temples, so he got to see Thai architecture along with the beliefs behind each design. Nowadays, Chatchawan focuses more on women who appear in Thai folklore and tales. He represents the story telling in a style that combines elements unique to Thailand and a more modern view.

"I was inspired by the belief in truth and nature in Thai literature which I interpreted in a contemporary style through images of women and my style of Thai painting."
