DIY retro collage
Step-by-step plan

DIY retro collage

Looking for a personal gift or some romantic decorations for your room? Try making your own retro-inspired collages! Hang them on your wall or place them on a table to add a nice vintage touch to your home décor.

In this step-by-step plan, Gitte Klausen shows us how to create these cute handmade collages using magazine or newspaper clippings, Talens Art Creation Decoupage and different types of paint.

What you need

Step 1

Start by adding a layer of Vintage Chalk paint in a colour of your choice to the clipboard or a picture frame.

Step 1

Step 2

Select various letters and images from the magazines and newspaper to create your collage with. Be creative with different shapes and sizes to make the overall image more dynamic.

Step 2

Step 3

Apply the clippings to paper of your choice. You can use pre-coloured paper or choose your own colour by applying paint to a sheet of mixed media paper. Allow it to dry completely before adding your paper clippings.

Try out different compositions before gluing the pieces down. Once you’re happy with your placement, glue the pieces you’ve cut out onto the paper using Decoupage.

Step 3

Step 4

Use stencils and a sponge stick or just a brush to add details and fun accents to your collage using different colours of paint. You can also do this before adding the clippings to create a background. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Step 4

Step 5

Clip the paper to the clipboard or frame it and enjoy your very own vintage collage! You can also use your own photos to make a thoughtful, personal gift. Have fun trying out different colour schemes and imagery.
