Tie-dye spiral pattern on a t-shirt

The most known tie-dye technique is the spiral pattern. You take one point from your fabric and twist it around until you have a ball of textile which you tie together with elastic bands. It cannot go wrong, each pattern is unique.

What you need

  • Talens Art Creation Textile Silk Tie-dye set
  • Plastic gloves (are included in the Textile Silk Tie-dye set)
  • T-shirt or other textile
  • Elastic bands
  • Plastic to cover your workspace
  • Bowl with water

All the textile you use should have at least 50% cotton. It should be washed without fabric softener before applying the paint.

Wet the t-shirt and wring it really well so it’s damp. This way the paint will be absorbed in better.

Step 2

Lay out the t-shirt take the textile between your fingers and twist. Twist until it’s a ball.

Step 3

Take the elastic bands and put them around the ball of textile.

Step 4

Apply the paint to the textile. Don’t forget the back. Let the paint sit so it can be thoroughly absorbed.

Step 5

Now you have 2 options.

  • Option 1: Pastel look. Rinse the t-shirt until water is clear. Let the t-shirt dry. Then iron for 5 minutes to fixate. 
  • Option 2: Vibrant look. Let the t-shirt dry. Iron for 5 minutes to fixate. Then rinse under the tab until the water is clear. 

After that you can wash it on 40 degrees.
