Not all colours cover in the same way. Each paint tube shows an opacity symbol that tells you how transparent or opaque the colour is. Use opaque colours when you want strong coverage and transparent colours for glazing and layering effects. Quick tip: Mix in Titanium White to make colours more opaque and pastel-like.
One of the easiest ways to level up your artwork is by adding shadows. Skip pure black and mix a deeper version of your colour instead. Apply it in areas hidden from the light and watch your subject instantly gain depth and form. Blend wet paint together for smooth gradients and seamless transitions. Want more control over your brushstrokes?
Try adding a few drops of water to your acrylic paint. Slightly thinned paint flows more smoothly from the brush, making it easier to paint clean edges, fine details and continuous lines. Just don't add too much. You want the paint to flow better while still keeping its rich colour and coverage.
